Electrolux ‘immersive’ Infinity

Electrolux Infinity

Some people say that the days of the microsite are numbered and that social media is the only platform in which to talk to your consumer base but the Electrolux Infinity microsite demonstrates that by using one of the best immersive and interactive experience I’ve seen to date, the microsite still has a place.

Using a beautiful flash interface, the user can toggle between light and dark interface. Another smart idea is the use of the diamond shapes used on the secondary navigation.

Discover the Editors new album through Google Street View

Discover the Editors new album through Google Street View

To help promote the new album from the Editors – In This Light And On This Evening, Sony Music has used an unusual media channel that allows the Editors fan base to explore and engage using Google Street View…

Using a Flash to cleverly extend Google Street View the Editors Street View allows users to search around London using the standard control and find preview tracks from the album using the red arrows. Clicking the red arrows leads the user to a secret area that plays the preview track and includes custom panoramic photographs of the band, shot at night by photographer James Royall. Including real fans allowed fans to connect and talk about the project, increasing the viral uptake.

AKQA serves up a real world use for augmented reality

AKQA’s website for the US Postal Service (USPS) uses augmented reality to allow users to work out what size of packing they need, saving money and reducing extra packaging. Users simply print off a 3D barcode from the USPS website and position it in front of a webcam. The Flash Augmented Reality Toolkit recognises the barcode as a placeholder and renders a model on top of it. The user can place their package on the printout and adjust the options to suite. Is this the first real world implementation of augmented reality that is actually useful and beyond a simple gimmick? I believe so.

A cool excel viral?

A cool excel viral?

What do you do when trying to increase awareness of the new AC/DC album? Naturally a viral is a cool way to kick things off and generate interested right? Facebook or YouTube would seem the natural habitat for such a campaign, yet think of the audience, how many have access at work? Hence the leftfield approach by the guys at Sony who choose Excel as the vehicle for the viral. Using a cool ASCII video written in VB script can only be called cool! With a million downloads and an unknown amount of email forwarding Excel has become cool.
